Thripinae
Subfamily information
Found worldwide, the species in this large group exhibit a wide range of biologies, with many breeding in flowers, but with others breeding on leaves, a large number associated only with Poaceae, a few feeding on mosses, and a very few obligate predators.
The subfamily Thripinae is highly diverse and is not likely to be monophyletic (Buckman et al., 2013). As treated here, it is largely equivalent to the group treated by Bhatti (2006) as a family Thripidae that included two subfamilies: Thripinae and Dendrothripoidinae Bhatti, 2006:361 [for Dendrothripoides].
In addition, Bhatti (2006) also recognised the following two small families .

Projectothripidae Bhatti, 2006:359 [for Projectothrips]
