Scirtothrips Shull, 1909: 222. Type species Scirtothrips ruthveni Shull, 1909, by monotypy.
Sericothripoides Bagnall, 1929: 69. Type species Dendrothrips bispinosus Bagnall 1924, by monotypy. Synonym by Hood, 1935.
Sericopsothrips Hood, 1936: 83. Type species Sericopsothrips palloris Hood, 1936, by monotypy. Synonymised by Ng & Mound, 2015: 391.

Biology and Distribution
The leaf-feeding species of this genus are found worldwide. Several are pests of various crops (Mound & Palmer, 1981), although the widespread pest, Scirtothrips dorsalis, remains a taxonomic problem (Mound & Stiller, 2011; Dickey et al., 2015). Moreover, the validity of many of the species described from Mexico (Johansen & Mojica-Guzman, 1998) is in doubt (Mound & zur Strassen, 2001; Hoddle et al, 2008; Mound & Hoddle, 2016).
